Prop Firm Consistency Rule Explained (2026): How It Works and Which Firms Have None

What a prop firm consistency rule is, how to calculate it, what happens if you break it, and which plans from the firms we list have no consistency rule at all.
Prop Firm Consistency Rule Explained (2026): How It Works and Which Firms Have None

A prop firm consistency rule limits how much of your total profit can come from a single trading day. With a 40% rule, for example, your best day must stay below 40% of your total profit before you can pass the challenge or request a payout.

Breaking it rarely fails your account. In most cases you simply have to keep trading until the big day becomes a smaller share of the total. But it can add days, risk and stress to a challenge you thought you had already passed. Below we explain how the rule works, give you the formula to check it yourself, and list every plan from the firms we track that has no consistency rule.

Key takeaways
  • Formula: best day ÷ total profit must stay below the firm’s limit (usually 20–50%).
  • Minimum total profit you need = best day ÷ the rule %. A $1,500 best day under a 40% rule means at least $3,750 in total profit.
  • Instant and direct-funded accounts almost always use the strictest limits (15–20%).
  • Plans with no consistency rule include E8 Markets E8 Pro, AquaFunded 1-Step Standard, Blue Guardian Standard and FundedNext Futures Rapid Daily.

What Is a Consistency Rule in a Prop Firm?

Prop firms want to fund traders who can repeat their results, not traders who got lucky once. A consistency rule is how they test that. It looks at your best single day (or, at a few firms, your best single trade) and compares it with your total profit for the challenge or the payout cycle.

If one day makes up too large a share of the total, the firm treats the result as a one-off. You aren’t breached, but you can’t pass or withdraw yet. Firms use different names for it, including profit distribution rule and consistency score, but the maths is the same.

Three details change how strict the rule really is:

  • The percentage. A 50% rule is easy for most traders; a 15–20% rule needs five or more days of similar size.
  • When it applies. Some firms check it only in the challenge, some only once you’re funded, and some in both stages.
  • What it measures. Most use your best day. Maven Trading’s Instant Mini instead caps your largest single trade at 15% of total profit.

How to Calculate the Consistency Rule

The check is one division: best day profit ÷ total profit × 100. If the result is below the firm’s limit, you pass the rule. Watch the wording: E8 Markets, for example, says no day may account for 40% or more, so exactly 40% fails.

The more useful version for planning is the reverse: minimum total profit = best day ÷ rule %. That tells you how much you need in total before your biggest day stops blocking you.

Worked example: $50K challenge, $3,000 target, 40% rule

  1. Day 1 you make $1,500. You’re halfway to the $3,000 target.
  2. Days 2–4 you make $500 each. Total profit is $3,000, so you’ve hit the target.
  3. Check the rule: $1,500 ÷ $3,000 = 50%. That’s above 40%, so you haven’t passed yet.
  4. Minimum total needed: $1,500 ÷ 0.40 = $3,750. You need another $750 or more without a new day bigger than $1,500.

This is why a big first day can make a challenge longer, not shorter. Use the table below as a quick consistency calculator:

Best day20% rule30% rule40% rule50% rule
$500$2,500$1,667$1,250$1,000
$1,000$5,000$3,333$2,500$2,000
$1,500$7,500$5,000$3,750$3,000
$2,000$10,000$6,667$5,000$4,000

Each cell is the minimum total profit you need. Firms that say “below” or “less than” need a little more than the number shown, so leave a small buffer.

What Happens If You Break the Consistency Rule?

At the firms we list, the consistency rule works as a condition for passing or getting paid, not as a hard breach like hitting the max drawdown. What changes is the outcome:

  • In a challenge: you don’t pass until the ratio is back under the limit, even if you’ve hit the profit target. You keep trading, and every extra day carries drawdown risk.
  • On a funded account: your payout request waits until the ratio is fixed. On 20% instant accounts that can mean several more sessions.

The fix is the same in both cases: add more profitable days that are each smaller than your best day. Don’t try to “catch up” with one larger trade. A new, bigger best day moves the target further away.

Best Prop Firms Without a Consistency Rule

If you trade for a few large moves (news, breakouts, swing trades), a plan with no consistency rule saves you from the “target hit but not passed” problem. Here are the $50K options, with prices after each firm’s code:

Best forex plan with no consistency rule

E8 Markets — E8 Pro has no consistency rule, a 6% static drawdown that never moves up, a 6% target and on-demand payouts. At $153 for $50K ($328 for $100K) with code INSIDE, it’s also one of the cheapest 1-Step plans we list. Trade-off: a 6% static limit leaves less room than AquaFunded’s 12% static 1-Step Flex.

On a budget, Maven Trading‘s Omo 2-Step is the cheapest $50K no-consistency option at $143 with code OMO, but it has two phases (6% then 8%) and payouts every 10 business days. Blue Guardian‘s 2-Step Standard ($174) adds an 85% split but needs 8% and 4% targets.

Biggest discount on a no-consistency 2-Step

AquaFunded — AquaFunded’s 1-Step Standard ($196) and 2-Step Standard ($179) have no consistency rule, pay a 90% split, and the challenge fee is refundable with the current offer. Trade-offs: payouts are biweekly, and the 1-Step uses a 6% trailing drawdown.

Futures Prop Firms Without a Consistency Rule

Futures firms use the rule more often, usually in one stage only. Rapid Daily from FundedNext Futures is the only futures plan we list with no consistency rule in either stage. It costs $270 for $50K with code INSIDE, with daily payouts and a $2,000 EOD drawdown.

If you can live with a rule in one stage, two cheaper routes work well:

  • Blue Guardian Futures Express ($98 for $50K): a 40% or 50% rule in the challenge only, then no consistency rule once funded and daily payouts after the buffer.
  • E8 Futures E8 Signature ($128 for $50K): no consistency rule in the challenge, but a 35% rule once funded.
Best futures pick if you dislike consistency rules

Blue Guardian Futures — Express is $98 for $50K after code INSIDE, and the rule disappears once you’re funded, which is where it costs you real money. It runs on NinjaTrader, Tradovate, TradingView and Deepcharts. Trade-offs: a 40–50% rule during the challenge and a payout buffer to clear first.

How to Pass a Challenge With a Consistency Rule

  1. Set a daily profit cap. Under a 40% rule with a $3,000 target, stop for the day once you’re up about $1,000. That keeps the best day well inside the limit.
  2. Fix your risk per trade. Same size every day makes similar-sized days the default, not something you have to force.
  3. Check the ratio every evening. Best day ÷ total profit. Our table above shows the total you still need.
  4. After a big day, trade smaller. Smaller green days dilute the ratio. Another big day resets the problem.
  5. Read the stage. A challenge-only rule disappears once you’re funded; a funded-only rule hits your payouts. Confirm which on the firm’s site, for example the E8 Markets official site or Blue Guardian Futures official site.

If your style produces a few big winners rather than many small ones, skip the fight entirely and choose a plan from the no-rule list above. For instant accounts, which nearly all use a 15–20% rule, see our instant funding prop firms guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the consistency rule in a prop firm?

It caps how much of your total profit can come from one day. With a 40% rule, your best day must be under 40% of total profit before you can pass or withdraw.

How do you calculate the prop firm consistency rule?

Divide your best day by your total profit. To find the total you need, divide your best day by the rule %: a $1,000 best day under a 30% rule needs $3,333 in total profit.

Does breaking the consistency rule fail your account?

Usually not. At the firms we list it’s a condition for passing or for payouts: you keep trading until more profitable days bring your best day back under the limit. Always check your firm’s terms.

Which prop firms have no consistency rule?

Plans with no consistency rule include E8 Markets E8 Pro ($153 for $50K with code INSIDE), AquaFunded 1-Step and 2-Step Standard, Blue Guardian Standard plans, Maven Trading Omo 2-Step and FundedNext Futures Rapid Daily.

Is there a futures prop firm with no consistency rule?

FundedNext Futures Rapid Daily has none in either stage ($270 for $50K with code INSIDE). Blue Guardian Futures Reserve and Express drop the rule once you’re funded.

Do instant funding accounts have a consistency rule?

Almost always. Tradeify FX, Blue Guardian and AquaFunded Futures use 20% on instant accounts; AquaFunded Instant Flex is the exception with no consistency rule.
